A word, which would aptly describe Jaisalmer, is difficult to find. The city is so many things at once after all. However, the sobriquet, the Golden City of India serves the purpose to some extent. Known for its simplicity and authenticity, Jaisalmer is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With golden-hued sand dunes, delicious food and a heritage so rich that its traces can be found in every corner, Jaisalmer is truly a wondrous destination. Tourists flock to the region to get a taste of the true Rajasthani flavours of life. Set out on this Jaisalmer overnight desert safari to experience it all and have the experience of a lifetime.

Go on a sightseeing expedition to explore the treasure trove around the incredible city of Jaisalmer. Start with the royal cemetery in Bada Bagh, where over a hundred cenotaphs can be found. The attraction is both historically and culturally valuable as it is a fine example of the architectural finesse of the local artisans. You will also visit an impressive Jain temple, located by the idyllic Amar Sagar Lake. The shrine is equally breathtaking and serene, and you can pray here and spend some tranquil moments. Further, on this overnight desert safari, you take a thrilling trip to the abandoned village of Kuldhara. It is a major tourist attraction in the area due to stories of it being cursed and haunted. Curious travellers visit the village to find out the truth behind the local legends.

The final leg of your excursion is a camel ride through the desert in Khuri village. Post the enjoyable ride, indulge yourself in a scrumptious dinner. If the weather is favourable, then you can sit by a campfire and take in the picturesque surroundings. Spend a night here, and head back to the city of Jaisalmer the next morning.

Itinerary:

Leave the city for the Jaisalmer overnight desert safari at around two in the afternoon. Visit some of the most popular attractions of the region before reaching the campsite. See the spectacular Bada Bagh, a garden complex, where more than a hundred cenotaphs of the kings of the region can be found, along with a tank and a dam. A perfect site to capture memorable moments, Bada Bagh also commands breathtaking sunset and sunrise vistas.

Thereafter, pay homage at the golden-coloured and elaborately carved Adeshwar Nath Jain Temple, which is an example of skilful artistry. Ideally situated beside the scenic Amar Sagar Lake, it is an awe-inspiring structure. Pay obeisance at the temple, and then head towards the next destination that is Kuldhara.

Located at a distance of around 20 km from the city of Jaisalmer, Kuldhara village has been abandoned since the 1800s. It is still a hit among those, who look to experience something supernatural. Many believe that the village, now lying in ruins, is haunted and cursed. Explore the remains of temples and houses here that provide an insight into the glorious bygone era of the village. Post an intriguing visit to Kuldhara, proceed towards the final destination of this overnight desert safari – Khuri.

On reaching the peaceful village of Khuri, known for its sand dunes, de-board the Jeeps and head out on foot. A camel ride is an essential part of a trip to Jaisalmer and neighbouring areas. Enjoy a joyful ride on the back of a harmless camel, and explore the expanses of the Thar Desert. Following this, relish a traditional Indian meal in front of sputtering fire. You can opt to sleep on the cool sand or inside in safari tents. Spend an unforgettable night in the delightful setting of Khuri village before moving on.

After a restful sleep at night, you have the option to go on yet another camel ride at an extra cost. Enjoy a hearty breakfast, and later head back to Jaisalmer at around 10:00 am.
