Location
Kamshet town was originally named Karmakshetra, which means the land of your actions. This small town is located off the erstwhile National Highway 4, which connects Mumbai and Pune. The road is dotted with hills, which house many medieval Buddhist cave temples and act as excellent sites for paragliding. Mumbai is approximately 99 km and Pune is about 47 km from here. This place can be reached easily as it is well-connected by roads from Pune and Mumbai.
Topography
The town is located in the moderately high Sahyadri mountain range. The hills of this mountain range serve as take-off points for paragliding in Kamshet. The low height of the hills also means that when you want to land, you will find ample flat spaces that will be quite helpful if you are a beginner.
Weather
Another plus point of undertaking such an activity is that the weather here remains suitable for it for long periods. If you are a club pilot, you can paraglide on all of your weekends and relish your time off work. The weather here allows for both pure ridges as well as dynamic styles of flying. Wind speeds of up to 20 km/h are perfect for you to tune up your flying and handling skills. Easterlies blowing from October to February and Westerlies sweeping through March to June ensure a long paragliding season in Kamshet.
What to Wear?
The greatest thing perhaps about indulging in this exciting activity is that no special attire is required. Be clad in comfortable t-shirts, track pants, and shoes and you are good to soar into the air. While paragliding the only thing that is discouraged from being worn is a pair of slippers. As you will be quite high up in the sky and you will be cruising at good velocities, the sun exposure may create problems for your skin. To avoid any spoilsport played by the sun on you, it is advisable that you carry sunscreen lotions. Tinted goggles are also essential as the strong light radiating from the sun may just be a little too hard on your eyes.
