The production of the liquor is a tedious process, requiring immaculate knowledge and skill. Your wine tasting at Akluj Pune will be at the vineyard of Fratelli Wines, which is a venture of four Indian and two Italian personalities. In 2006, the six owners came together and roped in Piero Masi, an expert Italian winemaker from Tuscany, to oversee the production. Piero looks over everything like planting, harvesting, crushing, fermenting, ageing and blending to ensure that the finished product is just perfect. To go on a wine tasting tour in Akluj, you must be of a legal drinking age, and properly fit. What and how much you get to taste will be governed by rules of the company.

Winery and Vineyard
The Akluj wine tour will be hosted in Motewadi, which is primary among the three Fratelli vineyard sites. Its 58 Italian-made tanks allow the company to produce roughly 600000 litres of the beverage annually. The production began by forming slopes on the flat 240 acres of land near Pune to replicate the grape-producing terrain of France and Italy. In 2006, Piero himself hand-picked 350000 grape saplings, and planted them here. The grapes were nurtured for around four years before the production started in 2010. That year the firm brought forth three different products, which were graded as Vintages.

The estate is located amidst the Western Ghats, so the hilly terrain and cool weather of the region are perfect for growing fruits. Here you will see perfectly in-sync rows of vines laden with green leaves, and purple or light green fruits, against a backdrop of sparsely forested hills.

Wines
During wine tasting tour Akluj, you may be told in detail about all the 12 varieties of the fruit grown here. Fratelli uses these varieties either alone or together to make 21 different types of the liquor. Almost all basic kinds of the beverage, including Sparkling, White, Rose, Desert and Red, are made on-site. Its French varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Bordeaux; Shiraz from Rhone Valley, Chenin Blanc from Loire Valley; Chardonnay; Pinot Noir from Burgundy; and Brut from Champagne. Sangiovese and Pinot Grigio are two Italian wines to be produced here.

The Activity
As part of this wine tasting Akluj Pune, you will first receive a guided tour of the farms, where you will see the vines and plucking process. You will then explore the factory, and see how grapes are crushed, and the juice is fermented and aged. Then comes the highlight of the trip – the tasting! You will be given 30 ml servings of two white, two red and a rose wine. Breakfast and lunch will also be served to you.
