ITINERARY:
DAY 01: ARRIVAL AT NJP/IXB | NJP/IXB TO PHUENTSHOLING (3-3.5 HOURS APPROX.)
On your arrival at either Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, meet our representative. Later, begin a road journey to Phuentsholing – a town in the Bhutanese side of the international border. Check-in at the hotel on reaching here, and enjoy a free evening and an overnight stay.
DAY 02: PHUENTSHOLING TO THIMPHU (164 KM/4.5 HOURS APPROX.)
Receive the necessary permit, allowing you to head further inside the kingdom, and later travel by road to Thimphu. On arrival in the Bhutanese capital – Thimphu, transfer to the hotel and stay overnight.
DAY 03: SIGHTSEEING TOUR OF THIMPHU
Have your breakfast at the hotel, and then leave for visiting some popular city attractions. This Bagdogra to Bhutan holidays package sightseeing list includes the BBS Tower, Motithang Takin Preserve, Changlimithang Stadium, Changangkha Lhakhang, Tashichho Dzong, National Memorial Chorten, Handicrafts Emporium and Buddha Dordenma statue.
Look at the Thimphu Valley from the last floor of the BBS Tower (subject to permission). Motithang Takin Preserve, a small forest, comprising pine trees and lush grasslands, is home to various endangered animal species. Archery, football and many other sports are organised at Changlimithang Stadium.
Buddha Dordenma is a 169-feet tall idol gilded in gold, with its pedestal serving as a meditation hall. Also, over 120000 smaller gilded copper statues of Lord Buddha are installed here, besides the primary idol itself. The highlights of Changangkha Lhakhang are a statue of Avalokitesvara with 11 heads, and sacred religious texts.
In the afternoon, get an outside view of Tashichho Dzong, which houses the offices of the government and the king. National Memorial Chorten is a stupa, containing photos, paintings and sculptures of various deities and Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third monarch of the kingdom. Visit local stores and the Handicrafts Museum to buy unique handmade items. Return to the hotel in the evening and enjoy an overnight stay in the city.
DAY 04: THIMPHU TO PARO (50 KM/1.25 HOURS APPROX.) | PARO SIGHTSEEING
In the morning, travel to the Paro city, and upon arrival here, transfer to the hotel. After resting for some time, leave the hotel to visit some popular attractions in the area. The sites to be visited today with this Bagdogra to Bhutan package are Ta Dzong, Rinpung Dzong, Kyichu Lhakhang and Drukgyel Dzong.
Ta Dzong has a cylindrical tower, where hordes of interesting exhibits of the National Museum of Bhutan are kept. Post exploring the history, culture and religion of the kingdom here, undertake an on-foot journey to Rinpung Dzong, and see the numerous temples, assembly hall and a Bodhi tree.
The intricate wall paintings of the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang contrast its mostly-unadorned exterior. Drukgyel Dzong is a 17th century fortress that now lies mostly in ruins, though the stone walls and its central tower can still be seen today. In the evening, drive back to the hotel for an overnight stay.
DAY 05: PARO TO HAA VALLEY VIA CHELELA PASS | HAA VALLEY TO PARO
Early in the morning, travel with this Bagdogra to Bhutan holidays package to the enchanting Haa Valley. Reach the summit of Chelela mountain pass, which has an altitude of around 13000 feet, after driving through pine and rhododendron jungles. DAY 06: PARO TO PHUENTSHOLING | PHUENTSHOLING TO DOOARS (LATAGURI)
After checking-out from the hotel, travel to Phuentsholing by road, and from here, head to the quaint town of Lataguri. Lataguri is located in the state of West Bengal, and it lies in Dooars that are the base of the Eastern Himalayas. The dense grasslands and moist and dry broad-leaved forests here house a large number of rhinos and elephants. On reaching the town, check-in at the resort/hotel and stay overnight.
DAY 07: OPTIONAL JEEP SAFARI | DOOARS (LATAGURI) TO IXB/NJP
