Jaisalmer – a sobriquet, golden city – is enough to evoke vivid images of stately mansions gleaming in hues of gold, camel rides in the desert and glittering embroidery on ethnic attires. All of this and a cultural treasure trove can be found in the city. Heavily influenced by Rajput history, Jaisalmer has managed to retain the quaint charm of its glorious past. The destination holds such a staggering level of historical importance that UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage Site. The sunset and dinner safari complemented by the rustic flavour of Jaisalmer is something well worth experiencing to explore the cultural, natural and architectural marvels of the area.

Your sightseeing expedition in this region, located in the magnificent Thar Desert, will start with a visit to Bada Bagh. The attraction is a vast complex of royal cenotaphs, a tank and a dam. These structures are breathtaking architectural marvels, and therefore, this place is a popular tourist spot. Post exploring Bada Bagh, head to pay homage at Adeshwar Nath Jain Temple. The shrine is ideally located on the shores of the renowned Amar Sagar Lake. This famous religious site is yet another epitome of rich heritage and impressive architecture that are so prevalent here.

Further, proceed to visit the uninhabited village, called Kuldhara, which is located in the outskirts of the city. Owing to the legends of it being haunted, the village has become a major tourist hotspot. Also, take a fun ride on the back of a camel, and explore the gorgeous sand dunes in Khuri village. In the evening, relish an authentic Indian dinner by a crackling campfire, and have an enjoyable time. At the end of this sunset and dinner safari at Jaisalmer, head back to the city with a heart full of pleasure, and a mind overflowing with memories.

Itinerary:

At around half past one in the afternoon, leave Jaisalmer in a Jeep. Proceed to visit some famous tourist attractions on the way to the village of Khuri, where this sunset and dinner safari will take place. Begin by exploring a royal cemetery, named Bada Bagh, which houses the cenotaphs of the rulers of Jaisalmer. Bada Bagh literally translates into big garden, and the site also includes a dam and tank within its premises. Examples of the exceptionally spectacular architecture of Rajasthan can be admired here. You can take pictures of this awe-inspiring complex to capture its beauty permanently.

The next destination is the famous Adeshwar Nath Jain Temple, located by the picturesque Amar Sagar Lake. Intricate carvings on its surface look tremendously exquisite and make the temple noteworthy. Be prepared to be spellbound by the grandeur of this architectural masterpiece, which is certainly an invaluable gem among the various splendours of Jaisalmer.

Following a spiritual experience at Adeshwar Nath Jain Temple, prepare yourself to be spooked in Kuldhara village. Located around 17 kilometres west of the city of Jaisalmer, the region is believed to be haunted. Irrespective of the truth behind this belief, the allure of Kuldhara primarily lies in its eerie environment. Though abandoned now, the village still has traces of the assiduous planning with which it was constructed.

After exploring Kuldhara village, set out to reach a remote village, located around 50 kilometres from Jaisalmer. Named Khuri, the village is chiefly known for its sand dunes. The silken sand, shimmering in sunlight, makes for a splendid spectacle. Go on a joyride on the back of a camel, and revel in the true Rajasthani atmosphere. Ride into the desert until sundown, and later enjoy a traditional Indian dinner, cooked to perfection by the skilful staff, before returning to the city. This marks the end of this sunset and dinner safari at Jaisalmer that is undeniably an unforgettable experience.
