Banjara Camp in Thanedar beckons you to the apple-growing capital of Himachal Pradesh. Samuel Stokes, a resident of the Philadelphia state of the USA, brought the fruit to Himachal Pradesh in 1916. Thanedar is located about 8000 feet above sea level, and is blessed with a cool temperate climate. Apple trees growing on flatter lands, surrounded by tall conifers form a lovely sight to behold. The property has a prime location amidst scenic groves of crimson apples and cherries. You may seek accommodation in a variety of rooms as per your requirement and preference. Single guests or couples may choose to stay in the lone Standard Room here. Apart from it, five Deluxe Rooms, two Log Cabins and two Family Suites await your indulgence.

All rooms have spacious bedrooms, mostly wooden furnishing, bright lighting, warm décor and spectacular views. The beds are large too and have comfortable mattresses and pillows for you to sleep on. Other common amenities in all accommodation units include attached bathrooms with cold and hot water, running throughout the day. The open balconies of the log cabins are surrounded by trees, and they provide panoramic views of the surroundings. Children will specially love to spend time and play in the attics of the log huts. While you are in your rooms, you may gaze at numerous pretty paintings hanging on the walls. Designer carpets, containing colourful patterns, further add to the decoration of these units. Family Suites have a drawing room each, featuring lounge-type furniture. So bring your companions here for camping in Thanedar, open a deck of cards perhaps and simply unwind.

You can also relax outside in the lush garden of Banjara Camp in Thanedar. The garden is perfect to relish a hot cup of tea in the morning while watching a breathtaking sunset. The restaurant of the establishment is circular in structure and has large windows of clear glass. It is spacious and dimly lit, ideal for a romantic meal while looking at the mountains and valley outside. Here you may treat yourselves to a variety of dishes from India and other regions of the world. Whenever you feel like exploring the area, just ask the manager of the property about the local culture and history.

How to Reach:
To make the most of your camping in Thanedar trip even before you reach at the site, come here from Shimla. The journey will give you so many pretty sights that you may never want to doze off. Shimla is a picturesque hill station in India, and the journey from here only adds to it. On the way, you will see snow-clad peaks, thick jungles of conifers and deciduous trees, deep gorges, sparkling rivers, terraced farmlands and little Himalayan villages. From Shimla, follow National Highway 22, and travel to Narkanda via Kufri. At Narkanda, leave the main highway and divert to the road that leads to Bithal. After travelling for roughly 15 km on this Narkanda-Thanedar-Bithal road, you will reach Thanedar. Your final destination is about 1 km before the main market of the town, and you will see the signboard at the point where you are supposed to turn. To reach Shimla or Sangla, follow this road for 21 km till Bithal, where it meets the main Shimla-Sangla highway.

Season:
You may come to the retreat in any month as it stays open for business around the year. It usually suspends operation in the event of heavy snowfall, which generally takes place in January and February. Between May and September, the days are pleasant while the nights can still get cold due to the elevation of the place. During March-April and October-November, the night temperatures drop to 2-3 degree Celsius; hence, you should carry warm clothes with you. Between December and February, Thanedar experiences heavy snowfall, which makes the days extremely cold. Such months are ideal to come here if you have an inclination towards winters. You can make snowmen, throw snowballs at each other or just roll on it.
