One of the most popular places of North East India, Mawsynram and Cherrapunji are one of the wettest places on Earth, which receives rainfall in the month of June to September. Meghalaya popular place is also home to a diversity of people, the Khasi, Jantia and Garo tribes. Interaction with the locals will give you an insight about their old animist culture which includes their local tribe, harvest festivals and sacred forests, where sacrificing of animals still happens.

 

Another interesting aspect of this trip is the living root bridge in Cherrapunji, which is man-made and is around 200 years old. You will be amazed to see the natural bridge which is really strong and is being used by people since a long period. You will climb up and down, and your knees might start to hurt, but if you keep up the zeal to reach, you will be stunned by the beauty of this raw, unspoiled and unharmed environment. ITINERARY

 

Day 1: Drive from Guwahati to Cherapunjee (5 -6 Hours)

Reach Guwahati airport by your own, and meet our representatives who will take you to the Cherrapunjee, which will take you 2 hours to reach. The drive on NH40 will take you to some of the most beautiful sceneries giving you a glimpse of the beautiful Umiam Lake or Barapani in local language. Take a halt for a while to click pictures for your Instagram feed before you proceed towards Shillong. The greener and cooler Assam will make you want to never leave on the first day itself. On reaching, check-in at Sai Mika Resort or similar, keep your belongings and then head-out to explore the resort. If weather allows, at night you can spectacle billion of stars, while in the evening enjoy performance of Tenny Gregory and his mates perform live for you. Enjoy a melodious night!

 

Day 2: Visit Wei Sawdong Falls and Trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge (17 km | 3-4 hrs | 3000 steps)

Wake up to a beautiful morning, and pack your bags with luggage just for the next two nights, and leave the other at resort. You will first drive to Wei Sawdong Falls, which will take you around 15 minutes. On reaching, you will climb the stairs to reach a splendid 3 – level waterfall. You can either watch it from here or walk all the way down to the ‘heart’ of it. Click some photos, spend some time listening to the gurgling of water and walk back up to the car.

Then, a 45 minute drive will take you to Tyrna Village, where you will begin the journey to Double-Decker Bridge Trek. A well-experienced and trained guide will lead us into the jungle and will motivate you throughout the trek. You will climb down 3000 steps and your knees will start to hurt, but if you keep up the zeal to reach, you will be amazed by the view of double-decker living root bridges.
 
Take some breaks along the way to take a breath, drink water and try some local lime juice. On reaching, you can keep some unwanted luggage in the homestay and then proceed towards the bridge, a two minute walk from the homestay. Chill by the water near the bridge, and get a fish pedicure at no cost. Overnight stay in Serene Homestay.

 

Day 3: Explore Rainbow Falls and Hidden Swimming Pools

Today morning, wake up early and after breakfast, head-out to the jungle, where the fresh and crisp mountain air will keep you hooked throughout the journey and crossing the living root bridges will keep you enthralled. Experienced swimmers can swim near the waterfalls, where you will be able to see a rainbow when the sunlight triggers the seven colors to form a rainbow. You will approximately take 2 hours to reach the falls, please carry camera to capture the beautiful rainbow and binoculars to spot bird species. You need not carry bottled water, as the hygienic water from the springs will serve your purpose. Make sure you carry moisturizers, warm clothing and trekking shoes. Also you will be spell-bind with the beauty of butterflies fluttering while you are down in Nongriat. Overnight stay in Serene Homestay.

 

Day 4: Explore the hidden falls, lakes and enjoy the folklore of Cherrapunji!

Today you will leave behind the beautiful homestay and embark early to enjoy the view at Cherapunjee. On reaching, Visit the well-known Nohkalikhai Falls View Point, this waterfall being the tallest waterfall in India. Afterwards, enjoy a delightful meal at a restaurant and the head to the hotel. After relaxing for a while, you will head-out for unexplored places like Kshiad Lyngksiar, Maw Sawa and many more. Have fun with your friends and be a part of the musical night at Sa-i-Mika. Have adequate rest so that your body can get ready for the next adventure.

 

Day 5: Drive to Mawlyngbna, Experience the thrill of river canyoning, among other activities and a heavenly sunset!  (93 km | 4-5 hrs)

As soon as the sun gilds over the skies, you will head out to experience adventure with a drive to the interior part, Mawlyngbna village. It will take 4-5 hours to reach. After settling your luggage, you will be going to river canyoning. It will be a great fun to dip, drop, drill in the water. Once you are done will head-out back to have lunch at the guest house. After filling the stomach, it is time to relax and watch the mesmerizing sunset that overlooks the plains of Bangladesh. Also if time allows, you can also play footballs with the locals or visit split. At night, enjoy the sight of billion stars. Overnight at Mawlyngbna Homestay.

 

Day 6: Visit the Cleanest Village in Asia - Mawlynnong and then to Dwaki River (130 km | 5-6 hrs)

In the morning, get ready for to visit the cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong. It is a 4-5 hours’ drive through the scenic landscape. On reaching, take a tour of the village, have lunch; you can also try the local cuisine. Afterwards, you will proceed for Dwaki River, which boasts of crystal clear water (check google for images). It is a gem of a place, take a boat ride and see local enjoying by the river around a bonfire or fishing or preparing feast for the night. You can also try some water sports or try your hand at zip-lining. You will have an overnight stay at Shnongpdeng Homestay which is nestled by the river.

 

Day 7: Visit KrangSuri Falls – Shillong (visit markets and local shops) (100 km |5-6 hrs)

After waking up in the morning, relish a tasty breakfast, and then proceed towards Krang Suri falls. Take your cameras out as a mere sight of falls will give you a great shot for your Instagram feed. You can take a dip in the water or relish a tea/coffee by the falls. After drying yourself a bit, you will head-out for Shillong. You will skip the lunch on the way and binge on little snacks, so that you can savor food at Shillongs one of the best restaurant, namely City Hut Family Dhaba. Later, you can head to the markets to buy some souvenirs for yourself. Bargain! Bargain! Bargain! Afterwards, return back to your hotel, where a celebration dinner at rooftop restaurant overlooking Shillong at night will be amazing to your senses. Enjoy the last day of your trip!

 

Day 8: Return journey (100 km | 4-5 hrs)

Today is the last day of your journey, so pack your bags, have breakfast, and start the return journey to Guwahati. The long drive will also have magnetizing points to click from the camera. You can halt, if time allows to click pictures. On reaching Guwahati, you have the rest of the time at your own leisure.
