Kings Lodge Bandhavgarh calls on all nature lovers to explore the heart of India, which is Madhya Pradesh. Its highlight perhaps is that it is located between two hills within Bandhavgarh National Park and lies close to its main entry gate. The resort, spread across around 14 acres, has 10 on-ground cottages and 8 stilt cottages as accommodation. You can look around the national park from open verandahs, attached to each room. Spacious interiors, honey-coloured furniture, sofas and king-size beds are the common amenities of every room. The large dining hall has dark coffee-coloured furniture, a thick wooden table, pretty candlesticks and a fireplace to create a royal feel.

This regal atmosphere is perfectly in line with the history of the National Park, which was earlier the hunting ground of the emperor of Rewa. Continuing the kingly theme, the property also has a high watchtower for uninterrupted views of the forest and the wildlife. The establishment has a well-equipped spa for you to get massages from professionals; a library and a spacious swimming pool. When you feel like going out, just opt for a wildlife safari Bandhavgarh, which happens to be one of the special services provided here. Ride on an open-top Jeep with raised seats and keep an eye out for the bountiful of creatures that live here.

Here you have two slots to choose from to embark on a jungle safari Bandhavgarh. Either head out in the morning between 6:00 am and 10:00 am or in the afternoon between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The authorities allow human activities inside the protected territory only between sunrise and sunset and hence, their starting and concluding times will depend on the season. Both ways, you are sure to tour through beautiful realms and spot numerous animals. Along with having one of the largest concentrations of tigers in the world, the area is also home to leopards, gaurs, deer, nilgais, wolves and hyenas. Such safaris can also be arranged on the backs of elephants; they give you a high vantage point to look far and wide. These rides are one-hour long, and for longer safaris, you may negotiate with the local forest department. You could also take a nature walk accompanied by avid naturalists or cycle through the jungle.

The best tourist attraction within the protected area is the famous Bandhavgarh Fort. As with many such structures in India, its origins are shrouded in mystery. No records exist, pertaining to the date of its construction and about who sanctioned it. As per legends, the fort was handed over to Lakshmana by Lord Rama, when the brothers were in the course of their 14-year exile. It is however clear that the structure has stood for centuries and that several dynasties including the Mauryans ruled here over the course of history. Inside it are numerous ruining temples, palace buildings, monumental gateways and numerous sculptures including the gigantic statue showing Lord Vishnu as reclining on the Shesha Naga. You may also come here on a wildlife safari Bandhavgarh to see birds as many endangered species of vultures reportedly nest inside the fortification.
