Embarking on the Assam wildlife tour is a magnificent opportunity for you to see the animals that inhabit the Brahmaputra plains and the Eastern Himalayan foothills. Jeep safaris in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, and Manas and Kaziranga national parks will let you observe the regional flora and fauna from a convenient vantage point. While on such trips, drive on lush grasslands and through thick deciduous and semi-evergreen jungles, with loads of streams and small ponds dotting them.
This wildlife tour in Assam will give you an altogether different experience while you are in Nameri National Park. You will navigate the protected site on foot and enjoy white water rafting on the Kameng River. But, before all this, you will visit Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati to learn something about the local religious beliefs.
Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival in Guwahati | Visit to Kamakhya Temple | Guwahati to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary (approx. 58 km | 1.5 hours)
Upon arriving at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, meet our tour representative and head to the revered Kamakhya Temple. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, spots where the remains of the body of Goddess Sati fell. This elongated shrine has one pyramidal tower and five domes above its sanctum. Sculptures of Lord Ganesha and other Hindu deities can be seen on its walls.
Post exploring this religious site, travel to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary and on reaching here, transfer to the resort for an overnight stay.
Day 02: Jeep Safari | Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary to Manas National Park (approx. 200 km | 4-4.5 hours)
In the morning, begin your Assam wildlife tour by embarking on a Jeep safari in the sanctuary. Enjoy driving on the lush grasslands and dense jungles of the protected territory that harbour animals like rhinos, boars, buffaloes and deer. Following this nature trip, travel by road to Manas National Park. On reaching here, check-in at the resort to rest at night.
Day 03: Jeep Safari
Post a delicious breakfast, head to Mathanguri for a Jeep ride in the protected territory, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As it is located in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, its terrain is somewhat hilly. It too has both grasslands and forests that are home to the rare golden langur. Apart from these, try spotting elephants, clouded leopards, civets, jungle cats and black bears. After this exciting excursion, return to the resort for an overnight stay.
Day 04: Manas National Park to Nameri National Park (approx. 285 km | 6 hours)
After relishing a tasty breakfast, check-out and travel to Nameri National Park, located in the Eastern Himalayan Terai belt. Upon reaching the site, transfer to the campsite to get some sleep.
Day 05: Trekking and River Rafting
This phase of your wildlife tour in Assam will promise to be highly adventurous and fun. Early in the morning, commence an approximately 3.2km hike in the jungle. Meandering through thick semi-evergreen and deciduous forests, look out for the colourful species of butterflies that inhabit the region.
Following this nature walk, return to the campsite for a nourishing breakfast. After the meals, head to the banks of the Kameng River to engage in white water rafting. The river consists of mild rapids that will do just enough to give you adrenaline rush and make your trip worthwhile. Post this fun-filled day, return to the campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 06: Nameri National Park to Kaziranga National Park (approx. 90 km | 2 hours)
Following breakfast at the campsite, travel by road to Kaziranga National Park. Once here, transfer to the resort for a comfortable night stay.
Day 07: Jeep Safari | Local Sightseeing
Relish breakfast and then head out on yet another nature spotting phase of this Assam wildlife tour. Kaziranga National Park is among the most famous protected territories in the country. Located along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, it is well known for the conservation of the endangered one-horned rhinos.
Take a Jeep safari through the local jungles and grasslands, and try spotting these animals along with others like gaurs, gibbons, pelicans, parrots, leopards, monkeys and dolphins. In the evening, explore a nearby tea garden and then some local villages to interact with the inhabitants. Following the excursion, return to the resort for an overnight stay.
Day 08: Kaziranga National Park to Guwahati (approx. 193 km | 3.5 hours) | Departure from Guwahati
After breakfast, end this amazing wildlife tour in Assam by transferring to Guwahati. On reaching the city, move to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to board the flight for your onward journey.
