An adventure that will forever remain etched in your memory, the Bhadraj Forest and Temple trek is well worth a try on a weekend break.
Itinerary:
The exciting trek to Bhadraj Hill starts from Clouds End, a renowned picnic and camping site with gorgeous surroundings. From the expansive meadow that is Clouds End, proceed on the trail leading into a thick forest. Upon walking for around ten minutes, you will find that the trail is divided into two. Choose the track that leads to Clouds End Hotel; upon reaching here, the next destination is Dudhli village. From this point onwards till the village of Dudhli, the trek goes on in a descending fashion. Thus, the next three kilometres of the trek are fairly simple.
After walking for nearly half an hour, the trail is again found to be divided. Carry on with the Bhadraj trekking trip by choosing the trail on the right. The path will take you into a verdant forest, full of lush oak trees. A number of trails heading towards Dudhli can be found in the forest, and you can pick any one of these to reach the village.
Dudhli is commonly known as the village of milkmen as it is home to those, who provide milk to the residents of Mussoorie. Upon reaching here, search for an ascending trail that starts near a certain newly constructed building. The path heads towards the right side of this structure and leads to a shop, which goes by the name Dukaan, written in the Devanagari script. From here, this Bhadraj trek path ascends towards the second ridge of the forest.
Continue the jaunt for a few hundred metres until you reach the point where the trail bifurcates. Head on towards the path that ascends continuously towards Bhadraj Temple. Further ahead on this path, you will find a sign indicating the distance from here to the temple. At this point, you may find that the walk has become a bit more demanding. The next one and a half kilometres on this path are rather rocky and difficult. After some distance, the trail will open up into massive grasslands. Enjoy a picturesque walk, with the views of the Swargarohini and Bandarpoonch Ranges treating your eyes.
When the expanse of the grasslands ends, you will reach the upper part of the Bhadraj Forest. The 2-km walk from here to Bhadraj Temple can be completed in about an hour. The first kilometre is a relatively easy trek on smooth and flat land. However, the next kilometre is a stroll that will need more stamina and dedication. Exit the forest to reach a rain shelter, and thereafter proceed towards the temple.
Pay homage at the shrine, and later continue your trek to the top of the hill. A panoramic view of the magnificent Himalayas awaits you at the summit. The Bhadraj Forest and Temple trek ends here, whereupon you head back to Dudhli village, following the same route. From the village, you can catch a Jeep, heading down to Mussoorie.
