There are hordes of places within the Himalayas, which are not widely known and as a result have been largely unexplored. One such destination is Sangla in the state of Himachal Pradesh, close to the India-Tibet border. At approximately 8590 feet above sea level, it experiences a mild climate as compared to the vast Indian plains, south of the Himalayas. Banjara Camp in Sanga Valley is an ideal site to escape from the maddening life of the metropolitan cities. The property is located on flat lands, with the Baspa River flowing on one side and conifer-covered mountains dominating the landscape on the other. Beautiful orchards of towering apple trees surround the establishment and make the site even prettier.
At the Banjara property, you have lots of options to choose from when it comes to seeking accommodation. Camping at Sangla Valley with this establishment can be done in 10 tents, of which 5 are classified as Deluxe and the rest as Super Deluxe. There is even a proper two-storey building, dubbed The Retreat, in the campus that has 14 suite rooms for you to stay in. You could perhaps experience utmost joy while staying in either of the two huts that face the gushing Baspa River. The Super Deluxe tents even have attics, where children will love to climb and play. Whatever option you seek for accommodation, you will find that they are all fully furnished. Each unit has an attached bathroom, wherein flows hot and cold water 24 hours a day. You may lie down in the hammocks and sway along with the wind for a relaxing and peaceful time.
The constant voice of water, splashing on riverine boulders will seldom break the silence and provide soothing music to your ears. In the evenings, the staff of Banjara Camp in Sangla Valley lights bonfire in the campsite to keep the cold at bay to a large extent. Whenever you feel hungry, just drop in at the on-site multi-cuisine restaurant, which serves tasty Indian and international dishes. Even if you are not in the mood to eat, the charring fragrance of barbecued delights will draw you to themselves nevertheless. Adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts may ask the management to arrange for a number of outdoor activities. You could take walks through the mountains to see the rich vegetation and wildlife of the region. A fun activity would be to fish for trout, which the river has plenty of.
Exploring the valley to learn about the lives and culture of the locals is another thing worth doing while camping at Sangla Valley. For a bit of adventure, hang from ropes and cross the raging river by the means of a pulley. Rock-climbing and rappelling are two of the best things to do while touring the mountains. Put your guts and concentration skills to the test as you try to make your way up or down the steep slopes of the Himalayas here.
How to Reach:
As the valley is located deep in the mountains and has a rugged terrain, no railway stations or airports are located nearby. Hence, road is the only way that makes coming here possible. Sangla Valley is at an approximate distance of 223 km from Shimla, the popular hill station and the state capital. Follow National Highway 22 out of Shimla for 209 km till Karcham. Once you reach here, take the road going right and after covering a distance of roughly 18 km, you will reach Sangla. Keep driving on the road for another 6 km till you spot the sign board of the camps to your right. Turn right from here and follow the road that descends to the base of the mountain, where the parking lot of the site is located.
