Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Cherrapunji | Introductory Walk

After reaching the town of Cherrapunji, transfer to the resort and relish a delicious lunch. Located in the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya, Cherrapunji is well known for receiving some of the highest amounts of rainfall anywhere on earth. This high humidity has made the jungles in the area grow dense, and precipitation here can fall any time of the year. The mountains, surrounding the town, provide numerous opportunities for hiking and nature viewing.

After lunch and resting for a while, head out for a walk in the town. Familiarise with the local terrain and the instantaneous weather conditions to keep you better prepared for the hikes in the coming days. If possible, then try exchanging pleasantries with the locals in an attempt to know about their life and culture. Later, come back to the resort and rest. Dry winter evenings will be warmed by a campfire, around which you can chat. Also in the evening, enjoy a wonderful cultural music performance before your overnight stay.  

Day 02: Trek to Living Root Bridge | Short Walk

Begin the Cherrapunji trekking adventure by undertaking a short, yet exciting on-foot journey to a living root bridge. See how the long roots of the banyan tree have been made to twine around branches and stems of other trees. This journey is about 4 km long, and it can take between 3 and 4 hours, depending upon your walking speed and hiking expertise.

Post the experience, come back to the resort for lunch, and then rest for some time. In the evening, head out for a short walk on Lovers Road and feel the romance levels rise. Later, return to the resort for a cultural programme and bonfire, with the latter being available only in winters.

Day 03: Hike to Double Decker Living Root Bridge and Natural Swimming Pool

Commence one more Cherrapunji trekking tour, and head towards a double decker living root bridge. It contains two bridges, one atop the other, and this speaks of the immense skill that the locals possess. Walk for about 10 km to reach this incredible structure, and then travel for the same distance on your way back. You can choose to cover a total of 10 km that is 5 km uphill and 5 km downhill by car. By the time you reach the bridge, you will have gained an altitude of around 2500 feet, and the journey may have left you exhausted.

As a compensatory measure, you will then move to a pool of clear water, formed by a flowing stream. You may head for a dip in it in summers, and let the cool water revitalise you. Following the venture, head back to the resort for a bonfire and another cultural music performance.

Day 04: Sightseeing with Picnic

Enjoy a picnic at one such site, and gulp the delicious food you had gotten packed.

Make the experience even better by bathing in one of the local rivulets if the weather is warm enough to do it. The rivers would be swollen during the rainy season, and the water will be quite cold in winters, so make sure that you come here in summers. Day 05: Visits to Three Viewpoints | Departure from Cherrapunji
