Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival in Guwahati | Guwahati to Langkawet
On landing at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, meet our travel agent and begin the Meghalaya road trip with trekking adventureby heading to Langkawet. Langkawet is a quaint village in the state of Meghalaya with lots of greenery and clean roads. After reaching this scenic retreat, head to the campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 02: Langkawet – Mawlynnong – Langkawet
In the morning, aroad journey from Langkawet will lead you through the forests of Meghalaya to Mawlynnong – crowned the cleanest village in the Asian continent. The inhabitants of the village trace their descent from their mother, unlike most other communities. During the day, stop in the small hamlet of Riwai, known for its living root bridges. These structures are endemic to Meghalaya, giving the state a unique charm. The local people make the hanging roots of banyan trees twine around betel nut tree trunks to form these bridges.
After reaching the village, stroll in its streets and take in the quiet atmosphere. Thereafter, head to a local eatery for lunch and then prepare yourself for an on-foot journey. A hike of about 1.5 hours will take you to Kyndiar, an abandoned village. The legends surrounding the incident are of mythical nature, and you may learn about them while here. At the end of this exciting tour, return to the campsite in Langkawet to rest at night.
Day 03: Langkawet to Shillong | Sightseeing in Shillong
Following breakfast at the campsite, drive to Shillong – the capital of the state. Located at an elevation of about 1500 feet above sea level, the city experiences pleasant weather for the most part of the year. It has numerous buzzing markets, informative museums and loads of natural formations. After your arrival in the city, check-in at the hotel and relish some refreshments.
If there is time, then take a trip to the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians. It is built in the modern style and features a simple greyish-blue exterior. Numerous Latin crosses, scenes from the life of Jesus Christ and revered saints, and stained glass windows give it an aesthetic dimension.
Thereafter, move to Wards Lake, an oasis of tranquillity in the heart of the bustling city. It is surrounded by lush vegetation and cured gardens, where you can take a walk or simply relax. This artificial waterbody also has facilities for boating that further increases its popularity. In the evening, head to Police Bazar, the primary shopping area of the city. After experiencing its buzz, and shopping, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 04: Shillong to Guwahati | Departure from Guwahati
Savour breakfast at the hotel, and then drive to Guwahati to end this wonderful Meghalaya Jeep safari with trekking experience. Once in the city, move to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport for the flight to your next destination.
