If you want to go trekking, but do not wish to head to the mountains, rather to the coast, then there are numerous beach treks that you can choose from. Though the eastern and western coasts of India are replete with such options, the state of Karnataka stands out with its picture-perfect beaches that offer adventure as well as solitude. If you want a short trip, which involves a couple of days of hiking, then the Gokarna Beach Trek is perfect for you.
The 4-day Gokarna Beach Trek from Mumbai, which begins from the coastal town of Kumta and ends in the temple town of Gokarna, is a moderately difficult trip. Therefore, almost anyone with optimum fitness level can undertake it. With pick-up from and drop-off in Mumbai, the sojourn involves two days of trekking, with approximately 5 hours of hiking each day. On this excursion, you will be covering a total distance of about 15 km on foot.
As you hike along the charming coast of Karnataka, your senses will be continuously treated to the sound and sight of the water, splashing on rocks or golden sands. During the excursion, your path will also be broken by the Aghanashini River; you will get to ride a ferry across it.
Trekking in Gokarna would take you across more than 10 mesmerising beaches of the region, including Nirvana, Kadle, Vannalli and Kumta. You also get to enjoy a relaxing sleep under the star-lit sky. Day 01: Mumbai to Kumta
Meet the rest of the participants at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station, and then board the train for an overnight journey to Kumta. A small town in Karnataka, Kumta is a well-known beach holiday destination.
Day 02: Kumta Station – Kumta Beach – Paradise Beach
Upon your arrival in Kumta, enjoy breakfast, and then take a bus to the picturesque Kumta Beach.
Post reaching the seafront, begin the Gokarna Beach Trek, and pass a number of scenic beaches. During the hike, take a small stop to savour packed lunch, and then continue the journey ahead.
End the day’s trekking excursion in the evening at Paradise Beach, and thereafter freshen up. Later, indulge in fun activities, and spend quality time with your loved ones around a bonfire. Thereafter, enjoy a refreshing sleep in your tent or sleeping bag under a canopy of stars.
Day 03: Paradise Beach – Gokarna Beach – Gokarna Station – Mumbai
Wake up to an enchanting sunrise, and breathe in the crisp air coming from the Indian Ocean. After freshening up, enjoy breakfast; following that, continue trekking in Gokarna by heading to the famous Gokarna Beach. The hike takes you through the well-known Om Beach, which resembles the religious Hindu symbol, Om. The sun-kissed seafront is fringed by sparkling waters on one side and lush forests on the other. During the journey, you will also cross the serene Half Moon Beach, famed for its crescent shape.
On reaching the pristine Gokarna Beach, head to a nearby hotel for lunch, and thereafter proceed to Gokarna Railway Station to catch the train back to Mumbai.
Day 04: Arrival in Mumbai | Tour Ends
The enthralling Gokarna Beach Trek from Mumbai concludes as you reach the metropolis with memories of the amazing vacation; you are free to disperse from the railway station.
