Considered to be one of the oldest treks in India, Har Ki Doon Trek offers one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. A part of the Garhwal Himalayas, this place is a must visit for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. It lies closer to the border between Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. This trek is considered an easy to moderate trek so even beginners can plan a trip there. Sankri serves as the base for this trek and you get to see places such as Taluka, Oslo and Kalkatidhar etc. on the trail leading to the Har Ki Doon top.
The Har Ki Doon valley, also known as valley of Gods, is situated in the western part of the Garhwal region in the state of Uttarakhand. The trek is operational almost throughout the year except for the monsoon season. During the winters, the entire valley is covered with a tonne of snow which makes the trek more challenging and adventurous. One of the best times to do the Har Ki Doon trek is after the monsoons i.e. September to November. The trail takes you through alpine meadows, pine forests and presents plenty of picturesque landscapes to be captured.
The Har ki Doon trek gives an opportunity to adventure enthusiasts to witness and admire the beauty of the Himalayan region, which since centuries has been a popular retreat for travellers from across the globe.
Itinerary:
Arrive at Dehradun ISBT on your own and meet our team at around 6:30am and then a conveyance will be arranged for you that will take you to Sankri. The drive is rather long but extremely scenic as you will see beautiful valleys and quaint villages throughout the route. You will pass through Mussoorie, Purola, Mora and Netwar, while following the Tons River as well. On arrival at Sankri, check-in at your accommodation and rest. Later, a briefing session will be conducted. Have dinner and stay overnight.
In the morning, post breakfast, you will drive towards Taluka which will be the starting point of today's trek. After a drive of an hour, you will reach Taluka, where your trek leader will give you instructions regarding the do's and don’ts of the trek. Once you begin the 14km trek, you will come across suspension bridges, wild flowers and some lucky trekkers might spot rare wild animals such as blue sheep, bears, barking deer or even a leopard. On arrival at Pauni Garaat, which is settled at 2700m, pitch your tents and let yourself unwind surrounded by the beauty of such a striking location and its scenic landscape. Stay overnight.
After having a relaxed breakfast at the campsite, you will start trekking to the next campsite - Boslo. Today you will be trekking a much shorter distance than yesterday but it will still take around 4 hours as the ascent will be steeper. After climbing for a short while you will be able to see glimpses of the Dhauladhar range. You will be accompanied by the beautiful coniferous trees on the side of the trail. Arrive at the campsite after crossing a ridge and relax for some time. Later, you may relax at the campsite or go for a walk nearby to catch the sunset. Have a scrumptious dinner at the campsite and stay overnight.
Today is going to be the most substantial day on this expedition as you will be trekking to the Har Ki Doon valley. You will start early in the morning as there’s a lot of distance to be covered and the ascent is quite steep on many stretches. Rise up to ascend towards Har Ki Dun, from where the majestic views of two peaks, namely Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini, will spellbind you with its beauty. The fascinating trail is another point of attraction for the trekkers as the path laden with lush greenery, dense forests, and vast meadows with the view of snow-peaked mountains is definitely a paradise and a captivating treat to the eyes of every trekker. After trekking for a distance of around 5 km, which will take about 5 hrs, you will reach the majestic valley of Har Ki Dun. Spend some time here and make some memories using your camera. Later, trek down to the Kalkatidhar campsite and stay overnight.
Today’s hike is going to be rather easy so have a relaxed breakfast at the campsite. After breakfast, you will leave the stunning valley of Gods, taking memorable experiences and a paradise-like view along with you. You will descend via the same route but with an extra cautious approach as the route while going downwards turns quite risky due to the wetness. Throughout the trail, you will encounter spectacular species of flora and fauna. Arrive at the Pauni campsite after trekking for approx 5 hours. Later, explore the surrounding places and click a tonne of pictures as you will have ample time. Stay overnight.
In the morning, have breakfast at the campsite and prepare to trek down from Pauni Garaat to Sankri. We will try to cover the entire distance quickly without taking many breaks so that you have enough time to explore the surroundings of Sankri. However, the stunning views of the Taluka and Sankri village will shoo away your thoughts of tiredness. With a leisurely walk at a constant pace, you will reach the camp. On reaching, just give rest to your body and legs. Later, go out and explore the area around your accommodation or just relax at your accommodation. Stay overnight.
After an early breakfast, we will start our journey to Dehradun. We will take the same route as we took while going to Sankri. Arrive in Dehradun by evening.

It was great fun and exciting, made some good friends and experienced some amazing views The entire crew was great and well organized, especially the catering staff with their wonderful meals. Just want to mention that we couldn't make it to the Glacier, we walked almost 3/4 of the way and had to come back!
I did Har Ki Dun trekking because this trek has everything! I booked this trek through Adventure Nation for June with two other friends. June-October is the best time to go on this one. Basically, the trek has everything you could ask for...it has waterfalls, beautiful flora and fauna in the Wildlife sanctuary, amazing views of Bandarpoonch and Swaragarohini and interacting with the local people all along the way. We even went to markets and bought a bunch of souvenirs! It was a wonderful experience. My best memory is from the day we trekked to Hata valley. Even though we hadn't trekked so much that day, I was mildly tired. But once we reached this place and saw the beauty that surrounded us, it was so incredibly refreshing, I couldn't believe my eyes!! Absolutely breathtaking!
Har Ki Dun trek has so much snow on it!! So, if you love snow like me, you must go on this trek on the right time. This trek is beautiful as it is, thanks to the natural scenic trail but it's made even more beautiful thanks to all the snow. Jaundhar glacier is definitely the best example of all the beauty I'm talking about. But truly you get to experience the best scenes when you get to camp by the riverside and enjoy all the views under the blanket of stars in a clear sky. This clear sky might sometimes rain so do not forget to take a raincoat with you for emergency times as rainfall is very common here. It would not ruin your experience, will make it a little more challenging but even more fun! Thanks, Adventure Nation for giving me the chance to have such an awesome experience.
Har Ki Dun trek in Uttarakhand is one of those trekking experiences you need to have in order to better understand how natural beauty can be so refreshing and rejuvenating. I had the best time on this trek with my friends. We booked through Adventure Nation months in advance and were constantly briefed about the process even after the payments were made. Their contact with the guide team was solid as we were greeted by the lot who came in with lots of preparation. I did fall a little sick after the first two days, perhaps failed to acclimatize too soon because it was my first trek. However, no sickness can actually stand the test of nature's refreshing charms. And with all the support from my fellow trek mates and the learned guides, I had a wonderful time. Thanks a lot!
Har Ki Dun trek in Uttarakhand is a special trek in many ways. You get to visit the local market places, interact with local people in villages as you pass by, you get to stay at a wildlife sanctuary, you get to observe the natural fauna and flora of the areas you pass through, you get to appreciate the beauty of Jaundhar Glacier! What more can you want from a single and such a simple trek. It is so much more than what you paid for it! Enjoy and have a blast. Make sure not to dirty your surroundings while you?re having a good time.
We started the Har ki Doon trek from this village called Sankri and then trekked to another Taluka. So, I like the fact that you get to interact with the locals scenes on this trek, not all of them allow this level of engagement. All of this is essential for making lifelong memories. Especially if you want to go on more treks. You won't get the kind of information you get from locals anywhere else. And this one is a pretty easy trek to undertake which at no point exhausts you so you can very easily go on this one without friends, you are sure to make new ones anyway!
Thanks, Adventure nation for the booking. I really enjoyed this trek. I was looking for something easy and doable. Your team really helped me decide accurately which trek I should go on and it was also put together beautifully. I made some new friends on the trek, definitely an experience I'm ready to have again soon in life. If you're a first timer like me you can still go. Enjoy and have fun on this beautiful trek full of uplifting scenery all along the way!
Har ki Doon trek came like a breath of fresh air for me. It was a much needed break that I had been wanting to take for the longest time. Har ki Doon and Hata valley were the perfect escape for me. It is the perfect blend of nature and thrill of trekking. Had so much fun with the awesome people that accompanied us and all the places we visited were all really beautiful!
This is a very easy trek. It is longer than a normal weekend getaway but it is as easy as that one. So go on this if you have a few more days than a regular weekend and are in need for some exceptional beauty. You will so much amazing flowers on this one. Truly fascinated by all the beauty our country has.
