If you are planning some adventure in the mountains in the near future, then opting for Har ki Doon trek can be a great choice. A part of the Garhwal Himalayas, this place is a must visit for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. It lies closer to the border between Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. This trek is considered an easy one and thus is recommended for first timers. However, a lot of excitement can be experienced on this trail that starts from the picturesque village of Sankri. From here, trekkers move towards another scenic village – Taluka, which is technically the starting point of this trekking adventure.
After admiring the scenic landscape of Taluka and staying here overnight, the following day the journey moves towards Osla, which is famous for rich vegetation with Himalayan peaks in the background. Next day, the group proceeds towards the foothills of Fateh Parvat, the location of Har ki Doon. Enjoy the scenic vistas of this place and click pictures of the untouched natural beauty.
The next destination on the trip is Jaundhar Glacier, which is known for its lush greenery and snow-capped mountains. On the following two days, descend back to Osla and Sankri. On the trek from Osla to Sankri, witness the exotic flora and fauna of the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. The last day’s plan is the drive from Sankri to Dehradun, from where you proceed for your onward destination.
The Har ki Doon trek gives an opportunity to adventure enthusiasts to witness and admire the beauty of the Himalayan region, which since centuries has been a popular retreat for travellers from across the globe.
Day 01: Arrival in Dehradun | Dehradun – Sankri at 6.30 am (approx. 10-11 hours)
Upon arrival at Dehradun Railway Station in the morning, drive towards Sankri – a beautiful village that lies in the district of Uttarkashi, about 162 km from Dehradun. This village serves as the gateway to the Har ki Doon, and it lies at an altitude of around 1950 metres above sea level. The village is located around 13 km inside the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. Situated close by is Sond village, which serves as the base camp for Kedarnath trek.
The drive from Dehradun to Sankri will take approximately 10-11 hours. Stay overnight at the pre-arranged accommodation in Sankri.
Day 02: Drive from Sankri to Taluka (12 km/approx. 5 to 6 hours) Later Trek to Osla ( 14 Km / Apprx 5- 6 hrs )
After breakfast, proceed towards Taluka village, which is the starting point of the the trek. The trek from here is not difficult and en route, you will see a lot of uninhabited villages. Taluka is famous for the wide variety of flowers grown here.Today, the trekking expedition will proceed towards the scenic village of Osla (2560 metres) a place where lofty, snow-clad mountains and rich vegetation can be found.
Stay overnight in Osla.
Day 03: Osla to Har ki Doon (11 km/approx. 5 to 6 hours)
In the morning, proceed from Osla and you will be simply mesmerised by the serene sights en route. Har ki Doon is situated on the foothills of Fateh Parvat, at an elevation of about 11670 feet. This picturesque valley is encompassed by high snow mountains.
Stay overnight in the camp.
Day 04: Har ki Doon – Jaundhar Glacier – Har ki Doon (15 km/approx. 7 hours)
After spending quality time in Har ki Doon, proceed towards Jaundhar Glacier (4300 metres), which are separated as south and north glaciers. This glacier is about 55 square kilometres in area and is surrounded by green grass and snow. The Swargarohini Peak is located close to this glacier.
Upon completion of the excursion to Jaundhar Glacier, come back to Har ki Doon for an overnight stay.
Day 05: Har ki Doon to Osla (11 km/approx. 3 hours)
Early in the morning, start trekking from Har ki Doon to Osla, which is only about 11 km away. As you walk on this trail, witness the awe-inspiring beauty of the region.
Day 06: Osla to Sankri (26 km/approx. 7 to 8 hours)
Today, descend from Osla to Sankri and on the way back, enjoy views of the fauna and flora of Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. Click pictures of the amazing view of the surrounding environs.
Day 07: Sankri to Dehradun | Departure from Dehradun
In the morning, embark on a journey towards Dehradun Railway Station to reach by afternoon, from where you will continue your onward trip.

It was great fun and exciting, made some good friends and experienced some amazing views The entire crew was great and well organized, especially the catering staff with their wonderful meals. Just want to mention that we couldn't make it to the Glacier, we walked almost 3/4 of the way and had to come back!
