Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival in Guwahati | Guwahati to Kaziranga National Park (approx. 195 km | 3.5 hours)
After reaching Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, head to Kaziranga National Park and upon reaching here, check-in at the resort for an overnight stay. Kaziranga National Park, which covers an area of approximately 860 sq km, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated along the Brahmaputra River, it is a hotspot of biodiversity. It is the oldest national park in Assam and home to large populations of elephants, one-horned rhinoceroses, wild water buffaloes and swamp deer.
Day 02: Jeep Safari
Early in the morning, have breakfast and then head out to explore the wildlife of the area on a Jeep. After this part of the Kaziranga and Cherrapunjee Jeep safari tour, visit a tea garden to witness the picking of the leaves. Also during the course of the day, roam around in a village and get a glimpse of the local life. Post the long day amidst nature, get back to the resort for a sound sleep.
Day 03: Kaziranga National Park to Shillong (approx. 255 km | 4-5 hours)
Post breakfast, embark on an approximately 5-hour drive to Shillong. Located at an elevation of around 4900 feet above sea level, Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya. It has a subtropical highland climate, which keeps the regional weather pleasant throughout the year. On reaching the hill station, head to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 04: Shillong to Cherrapunjee (approx. 54 km | 1.5 hours) | Sightseeing in Cherrapunjee
After breakfast, travel to Cherrapunjee – one of the most humid places in the world. On reaching here, transfer to the resort and later undertake a trek to a single decker living root bridge. On the way, pass through a village, named Sohsarat, and meander through lush forests. The living root bridges are made by the intertwining of massive and thick tree roots and branches.
There are a lot of streams flowing throughout Meghalaya, and to cross them the Khasi people have been building and using such bridges for more than a hundred years. Thereafter, trek back to the hotel and enjoy a music performance by the locals before going to sleep.
Day 05: Cherrapunjee to Mawlynnong | Mawlynnong to Shillong
Post breakfast, drive to Mawlynnong village. Also on this day of the Kaziranga and Cherrapunjee adventure trip, visit Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak. Elephant Falls were referred to as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew by the local people, and the phrase translates into the Three Steps Waterfall.
The highest point in Meghalaya, Shillong Peak is a famous tourist attraction. At an altitude of approximately 6500 feet, it provides an enchanting view of the city and its surrounding area. Mawlynnong village in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya is famous for being the cleanest in Asia. It is a quiet settlement with thatched roof huts and a lot of vegetation. During your stay in the village, explore the pristine forests surrounding it and living root bridges, and enjoy a bird’s eye view of Bangladesh. Later, continue to Shillong for an overnight stay at the hotel in the city.
Day 06: Shillong to Guwahati (approx. 100 km | 2.5 hours) | Departure from Guwahati
Have a sumptuous breakfast and then drive back to Guwahati. Once in the city, head to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport for your return flight.
