Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival at Kullu | Rafting
On reaching the town of Kullu, check-in at the campsite and get some rest. After a delightful breakfast, move for a round of rafting in Kullu on the gurgling Beas River. The grades of the white waters in the river are II and III, which means that rowing and manoeuvring the raft will not be too difficult. Before you begin navigating the river, you will receive a briefing on the sport and the equipment involved like the boat, paddles and safety gear. Your guide will also tell you how to row and tackle the waves, and if you have any queries, you must clear them right then.
Following the briefing, you will be given the oars, life jackets and helmets, and then you will board the inflatable rubber boat. Trying to control the raft as you move speedily with the strong river currents that continuously drench you, will be an exhilarating experience. After this adrenaline-rushing activity, retreat to the campsite. Sit by a bonfire, chit-chatting with fellow group members, and then enjoy a hearty dinner before retiring in your tent.
Day 02: Kullu to Barot (133 km) | Cycling from Barot to Badagram (20 km)
Wake up early to witness the sun, rising from behind the soaring Himalayas, and then enjoy some tea and coffee. Later, relish breakfast, and head to the scenic village of Barot. The ride will be amazing as it will take you on winding mountain roads past numerous villages, above valleys, along rivers and through dense deodar forests.
The idyllic village is located on the banks of the Uri River at an altitude of around 6000 feet. Once here, begin your cycling in Himachal experience by riding to a trout fish farm in Badagram. The cool mountain air will be enough to relieve you of the tiredness you suffered during the long road journey from Kullu. Riding downhill, you will pass through fragrant deodar forests and be accompanied by natural vistas. Following the trip, transfer to the campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 03: Trekking from Badagram to Billing
After freshening up, get ready for trekking in Kullu by exercising and warming up. The hike from Badagram will lead you to the famous paragliding site of Billing, situated at an elevation of approximately 8000 feet above sea level. You walk for around 10 km, most of it uphill, through forests of cedar that will change into those of firs and spruces as you gain height. Along the way, you will pass many tribal villages, where you will have a chance to witness the simple life of locals.
Upon reaching your trekking destination, transfer to the campsite and relax. You could go to a local tea and Maggi joint for refreshments at your own expense.
Day 04: Billing to Bir (14 km) | Paragliding or Trekking
Gorge on a nourishing breakfast, and then head for paragliding. On reaching the take-off site, attend a briefing on the activity, and learn about various navigation techniques. Then, sit in the glider’s harness, and soar across the sky with the Himalayan landscape below and in front of you. Feel the wind in your hair and the adrenaline rush in your veins.
Those, who do not want to indulge in paragliding, can enjoy a round of trekking in Bir Billing by hiking from Billing to Bir. This journey will be easier than the previous one as it will only involve downhill walking. On the way, you will notice a stark change in scenery as coniferous vegetation will give way to deciduous trees. On arriving in Bir, move for your onward journey.
