Mussoorie – the queen of the hills – presents numerous opportunities for short and easy hiking excursions. Pari Tibba Trek is one of the most popular such ventures that you can undertake near the hill station. It is perfect for you to begin mountaineering or hone the already existing skills you have. Pari Tibba trekking tour will take you through pristine forests that will give you mesmerising views. Though the journey is easy, it will take about 6 hours to complete it, so make sure that you are completely fit for the task.
One of the best things about undertaking a trek to Pari Tibba is that you will touch a maximum altitude of around 8530 feet. At such a height, the chances of altitude sickness will be next to none. If you go on the excursion in the right season, then you may get to see rhododendron flowers in full bloom. The total distance of the Pari Tibba trek in Mussoorie is about 15 km, and half of it involves easy descent.
Itinerary:
Start the Pari Tibba trek from Woodstock School and from here, move to the east of the peak. Keep ascending for about 2 km till you reach a point, from where two peaks are distinctly visible. To continue the excursion, turn right towards the south direction, and follow the trail that climbs through thick deodar, fir, pine and oak forests. From here, the ascent is easy, and along the way, you will be able to see remnants of some colonial-era buildings. Once at the top, enjoy panoramic views of the hill station and see some its iconic teaching institutions.
When beginning the downhill stage of this Pari Tibba trekking tour, try to stay as close to the mountain ridge as possible. The initial stretch of the way down is unmarked, so it is better that you come here with a tour guide. Keep descending for about 4 km through a thick oak forest, and as the jungle ends, look for a marked track and a stone wall. Turn your head to the east, take your gaze over the wall and notice the houses of Chamalsari village on the lower part of the hills. Turn right, and tread on Chamalsari-Company Bagh track, which descends gradually.
The downhill section of the trek to Pari Tibba will first take you in the west direction, and then the trail turns to the north-west. This path leads all the way to Mussoorie, passing through Company Bagh and the small village of Barlowganj. The path, leading up to the village, starts from Company Bagh, and the journey is a steady ascent. In certain places, a ridge will divide the valleys of two rivers, and such hills will be quite rugged. Tread on them carefully, and to keep the chances of mishaps at bay, you may even take the help of a strong walking stick. On reaching Barlowganj, where the Pari Tibba trek in Mussoorie ends, bid farewell to your hiking group, and move on for your onward journey.
