Itinerary:
Day 01: Pick-up from Bengaluru
Drive from Bengaluru at 10:00 pm via a coach to the homestay in the Coorg district.
Day 02: Arrival in Coorg | Sightseeing | Trek to Tadiandamol and Back to Base
Reach the homestay around 5:00 AM, and then get some rest post the long road journey. After resting, visit Chelavara Falls, a popular attraction in the region. Post this, travel to the Tadiandamol trek base to begin your expedition. At the beginning itself, the trail leads past water streams and into a dense forest. Even in the height of day, the sunlight is not able to reach the forest because of the dense vegetation. The trail is quite muddy in the starting, and has an easy gradient.
After quite a while, the path exits the jungle and takes you to open grasslands, and you get the glimpse of a false summit from here. Further ahead on the walk, you will see a giant boulder, called the Big Rock, which you will have to ascend. This boulder is used as a landmark to mark the path by mountaineers who venture here. It also announces to hikers that the easy part of the journey is over.
Climbing to its top is not difficult as the rock itself is not too high. You may stop here to rest for a while as the following phases of your tour will be somewhat difficult. The path will at once become steep as you tread along further from this rock, and its gradient will keep on increasing gradually.
Your trek to Tadiandamol will now take you inside the dense shola grasslands of the Western Ghats. This jungle will be denser than the previous one, and the trail here will also be quite steep. Continuing through here, you will have to be wary of tree branches, emerging towards you. After meandering through thick vegetation for about 20 minutes, you will exit the forest. At once, you will feel the increase in temperature, which was considerably low inside the forest. You will now see a peak, which is often mistaken for the final destination.
Stones on the path will provide you with enough holding options to negotiate the steep climb ahead. The trail now circles another false peak, and from here you will see a trail of stone, leading up to yet another false peak. Beyond this misleading summit begins the final Tadiandamol trekking phase. This leg of the excursion will be the steepest yet, and the path will be full of stones. When you finally reach the parent peak, you will definitely heave a huge sigh of relief as the gruelling uphill walk will now be over. Take a long rest at the top, and click photographs of the lush greenery enveloping the mountain. Relish lunch at the summit, and later commence your downward journey, retracing the same trail that brought you up here. Reach the homestay around 8:30 PM, and then get some rest. Post resting, have a scrumptious dinner by a bonfire, before retiring for the night.
